Help:Using greater-than and less-than symbols and HTML in wiki articles

From COLLADA Public Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

When using < or > symbols in a wiki page, be aware that the wiki software does recognize some HTML. Therefore, anything that you type between these symbols might "vanish" or have other odd effects on page formatting (formatting is ignored or other aberrations) if it happens to duplicate recognized HTML.

For example, <font> is a standard HTML tag, but it might also be used in locally defined XML schemas. To ensure that the wiki software interprets it as text rather than as an HTML command, use standard encoding for the special characters:

  • &lt; for <
  • &gt; for >
